“We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender…”
– Winston Churchill
On this day 76 years ago, 6th June 1944, some of the most courageous men to have ever lived, under a hail of heavy machine gunfire, stormed the beaches of Normandy in what is known today as the D-Day landings.
It’s difficult to comprehend the intense fear that those courageous young men experienced in those chaotic moments, yet they pressed on with every bit of their might to free the world of one crazed, deranged lunatic and all his cronies.
Many of those men sacrificed their own lives that day, yet not forgetting every person who paid the ultimate sacrifice throughout the war so that you may enjoy the freedoms that you and I are fortunate to live with today.
That is something to be wholeheartedly remembered and respected, never forgotten. Who knows what sort of world we may be living in today if it weren’t for those courageous men.
Their generation saved the world back then, however, the responsibility has not ceased, for it is up to our generation to not only preserve the world that was given to us by them, but we have a responsibility to save the world in many different aspects that we face today, from ourselves and from those among us who choose to ignore that very responsibility.
Every one of those men deserves a moment today to be remembered, respected and reflected upon.

Photo: Enjoying my usual daily quiet time, sitting on Rose Ramblers deck whilst on anchor in the beautiful bay of Port Soller on the island of Mallorca last year. Watching the sun go down and the day draw to a close. Taking in the moment and enjoying my bit of freedom just in the way that I like it.
Location: Port Soller, Mallorca, Spain.
